Men’s Health
Once again men’s Health was a priority for the GPs at Netherfield Medical Centre this summer. We took part in the “Be Well – Feel Well” campaign on 26th June when we ran our second successful Street Doctor event on Chandos Street.
Our Patient Participation Group collared men who were out shopping and we offered them a Well Man Check. This included a blood pressure check, blood sugar check, urine checks and lots of advice about general health matters. We also provided advice related to smoking and alcohol. Many of the men who consulted were not regular attenders at their surgery and we identified several individuals who had previously undiagnosed medical conditions.
This year we targeted younger men offering condom card registration, free condoms and free chlamydia screening.
Our two Street Doctor events have been such a success, we have decided to make Netherfield Street Doctor a regular annual event.
Patient Participation Group (PPG)
Our PPG is now up and running. We meet every two to three months to discuss any issues raised by our patients or by the surgery staff. The PPG has decided to raise money to fund the purchase of three new armed chairs for our reception waiting room. This is in addition to four such chairs which we have already purchased. These chairs are designed for people with arthritic conditions and we would ask that priority is given to such patients. We kindly request that you encourage your children to sit elsewhere.
Our PPG is looking for new members and we are particularly under represented in the younger age groups. Please contact the surgery if you are interested in being actively involved in your local practice.
Attention Teenagers!
Our teenage friendly practice is now C Card (Condom Card) registered. This scheme allows teenagers over the age of 14 years to collect free condoms from the practice once they have registered. If you want to take advantage of the scheme, please contact Dr Kennedy or Nurse Practitioner, Eddie Alder. This service is completely confidential. We also offer free confidential Chlamydia screening to young people aged 14 to 25 years.
Text Messaging
Do you keep forgetting your appointment? From early November we will be able to send you a text message reminder the day before your appointment. Please ensure we know your up-to-date mobile number. This service is available for patients 18 years and over. If you do not want to take advantage of this service, please let us know.
Citizens Advice Bureau Service
We are offering an exclusive service to our patients from the Citizens advice Bureau. Patients requiring advice can contact the surgery to book an appointment with an advisor at the surgery.
New GP Registrar
The staff at Netherfield Medical Centre would like to welcome our new GP Registrar, Dr Ban Alazzawi to the practice team.
